ARTIST STATEMENT

I am a ceramic artist and a painter, finding inspiration in the natural world. Recently, I have transitioned from heavily textured to smooth but highly decorative surfaces in my ceramic work. In this way, I have shifted my enjoyment of floral painting from just canvas to the multi-dimensional surfaces of ceramic work as well. I create function ware, tile work and sculptures in addition to acrylic paintings.

I received my BFA from the School of Art at the University of Manitoba. I maintain a private studio in Gimli, Manitoba, am a member of the Gimli Art Club, and I work for the Winnipeg Art Gallery.

BIOGRAPHY

My obsession with clay began at Stoneware Studios in Winnipeg, Manitoba where I was immediately drawn to this material. Inspired by other artists in this studio, I began studies at the School of Art, University of Manitoba towards a major in Ceramics. Since completing my degree, my art has been an experimentation of forms, surfaces and firing methods while creating function ware, sculpture, and tile work.
