ARTIST STATEMENT

I find inspiration in the natural world. My past work relied on creating heavily textured sculpture and functional ceramics. I have now moved towards producing smooth and highly decorative surfaces. I see this shift as a transition between my colour experimentations on canvas and my three dimensional work.

I began working with clay in a workshop at Stoneware Studios in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I was immediately drawn to this material which allows endless experimentation. Inspired by other artists in this studio, I began studies at the School of Art, University of Manitoba towards a major in Ceramics. Since completing my degree, my clay work continues to evolve with varying forms, surfaces and firing methods.

I began painting while studying at university and have continued to explore acrylics on canvas, wood and concrete. As a member of the Gimli Art Club, I create and help restore murals on the Gimli Seawall Gallery with other club members.
