Working with the wrong clay for new large scale sculptures because I had it available in my studio. This was a mistake as I had two new pieces fail. I have learned my lesson and will buy new clay meant for this type of work. Lesson learned the hard way but will not be soon forgotten.
Thank you to everyone who has inquired about buying one of my sculptures. I am working on a 'SHOP' page for this website and should have this ready by June 2017.
I will have work available for sale during Doors Open Winnipeg, May 26 (7-11pm) and May 27th and 28th (11am-5pm) at Artlington Studios, 618 Arlington Street. Myself and other artists at Artlington will be there that weekend with our studios open for visitors. Winnipeg Art Gallery Gift Shop Gallery: 300 Memorial Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB
January 26-February 19, 2016. Hours 11am-5pm daily, Closed Mondays The best way to flip any relatively flat leather hard piece:
I use cut pieces of 'foam topper' (which is a mattress pad) under my sculptures while I work on them. The foam allows a form to be supported but not misshapen. To turn a piece over, I 'sandwich' another piece of foam plus a batt over the top, place one hand on the top board, one hand under to support the bottom board and then flip everything together in one motion. Less stress on the piece means less chance of cracking in the firing:) |
